RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE

Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) is the largest chapter in Australia and operates three Houses that provide essential accommodation and support services for seriously ill or injured children and their families. Our purpose built Houses provide accommodation with ensuites and shared recreational areas for families, including kitchens, lounges, children’s play areas, courtyards, laundries and quiet areas for those needing to conduct business during their stay.

We operate the following programs:

  • Ronald McDonald House Herston
  • Ronald McDonald House South Brisbane
  • Ronald McDonald House at LCCH
  • Ronald McDonald Family Room Gold Coast Hospital NICU
  • Ronald McDonald Family Room Gold Coast Hospital Children’s Ward
  • Ronald McDonald Family Room at LCCH

RMHC SEQ operates a 50 room House at Herston beside the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital, a new 13 level House at South Brisbane with 70 rooms situated directly opposite the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital and Mater Mothers’ Hospital and a House within the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital. Our Mater House was decommissioned in September 2016 upon the opening of the South Brisbane House.

Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a special place inside hospitals where families can relax and have time away from a clinical setting while remaining close to their child. We have two Family Rooms inside the Gold Coast University Hospital and one based inside the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital. Our Family Rooms endeavour to provide this retreat for our families and we rely on volunteers to operate the rooms.

The Ronald McDonald House Learning Program has been developed to provide educational programs to support students who have missed schooling due to serious illness. Every year, thousands of children around Australia are treated for serious illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and cystic fibrosis. The impact of hospitalisation, medications and lengthy recovery means that many children fall behind in their education and never reach their full potential. The Learning Program offers assistance to children to catch up on their education.

Make a Meal

Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland provides a home away from home for regional families of seriously ill children with the aim to keep families close during their time of need. Parents often return to the House after a long day at the hospital with their child and cooking a meal may be the last thing on their minds. This is an area where the House can take the stress away from a parent and make their lives easier. Ronald McDonald House needs your help to ensure an efficient and quality dinner time service for families staying in the House.
